How are RankingLab rankings made?

By our own research engine, a multi-agent AI system that gathers and verifies evidence from every lawfully accessible source, together with independent research and the judgment of doctoral-level experts, who decide every ranking. See the methodology.

Is RankingLab a commercial ranking?

No. RankingLab is an independent research project, operated on a not-for-profit basis and run by volunteers. It receives no funding for its rankings, carries no advertising and sells nothing to anyone it ranks. See the Funding Policy.

Do you rank only universities?

No. Academic rankings of degrees, programs and institutions are our core, because professional quality starts with quality education. We also rank practice, such as AI companies, AI agencies, professional AI certifications and training providers, and the labs and platforms that connect learning and practice, under the same verification gate and expert review. See practice rankings and additional rankings.

How is AI used, exactly?

Through a multi-agent research system: dozens of research agents, agentic search engines and models purpose-trained for research, each assigned to a task in our protocol: discovery, extraction, independent verification and settling disagreements from the source. In parallel, doctoral-level researchers carry out their own research and cross-check the results, and the editorial panel makes every judgment. AI never assigns a score, decides eligibility or publishes text without human review. See the Methodology and the Responsible AI Use Policy.

Who are the assessors?

Researchers with a PhD or equivalent doctorate in the relevant field, who volunteer, declare conflicts for every assignment and score blind. Their identities stay confidential, to protect them and the rankings from outside pressure. See human research and judgment.

Why are some institutions missing?

Either they are outside the scope of a ranking, they did not pass verification, or the evidence was too thin to score reliably. Our rankings list top entries only, so absence is not a statement about any entity and is never an accusation.

Why do you not name your team?

Independence. Keeping the identities of our team, editorial panel and assessors confidential protects them, and the rankings, from pressure by the entities we assess. Our methodology, by contrast, is fully public.

Why show uncertainty bands?

Because a ranking is a judgment built on evidence, and evidence has limits. Small score differences are often within the margin of error, and we would rather show that than pretend to precision we do not have.

Can an institution pay to be included or to improve its position?

No, never. Not for inclusion, position, faster assessment, badges or early access. This rule survives any change to our funding model.

Do you use QS, THE or other rankings?

Only as a small, capped external reference signal (default 5%, maximum 10%) and only where the publisher's terms or an open licence allow it. We never reproduce their tables. Where no permissible source exists, the signal is set to zero.

How often are rankings updated?

Rankings are refreshed during the year as new evidence is reviewed. Methodology changes are published and logged on the updates page.

Are the rankings on this site real?

Yes. Every published ranking was researched, verified and reviewed under the published methodology. Rankings marked coming next are still in research and have no page yet.

Can I reuse the data?

Yes. Unless stated otherwise, text and ranking data are licensed under CC BY 4.0. Please cite the edition and the link. The RankingLab name, logo and badges are not covered by the licence.
