Why RankingLab exists.

Established rankings are rigorous and respected. They were also designed for a slower world. AI is changing what people need to learn, and how professions work, faster than long-standing methods can follow.

Our mission

RankingLab is an independent, international research and technology lab. Our mission is to produce the rankings the AI era requires: rankings that reflect what quality means now, in learning and in practice.

Learners, employers and organizations want to know which programs, schools, credentials and providers genuinely prepare people for work shaped by AI, and which companies deliver in practice. They want that answer to be current, clear and trustworthy. We publish rankings built on evidence anyone can check, judged by people qualified to judge it.

From learning to practice

We measure the path from academic training, through professional training, to application in the field and the outputs it produces. Academia is the engine of that process; the professions are where it continues.

  • Academic rankings are our core: degrees, programs and institutions, assessed above all on the depth and quality of what they teach.
  • Practice rankings follow learning into the field: AI companies, agencies, products, providers and professional training outside academia.
  • Additional rankings cover what connects the two: research labs, accelerators, learning platforms and communities.

We start with academia because everything starts with quality education that translates, in the field, into real outputs and professional contribution. We are not limited to it: wherever a ranking serves that mission, we can build one.

A research and technology lab

A laboratory builds its own instruments, publishes its methods, shows its error bars and lets others check its results. We hold rankings to the same standard.

  • Our own technology. We designed and built our own research engine: a multi-agent system that orchestrates agentic search and frontier research models, cross-verifies every value and anchors it to its source. How it works.
  • Open method. The frameworks, the indicators and the statistical method are public.
  • Uncertainty shown. Every score carries its uncertainty band, every rank its rank band.
  • Human judgment. Doctoral-level experts research independently and decide every ranking. AI is an instrument for reading evidence, never the judge.
  • Editions. Rankings are published in numbered editions, and corrections are public.

Our mark is an interval: two brackets around a point estimate. Every score we publish has that shape.

Independence

RankingLab is an independent ranking agency. We act on our own behalf and form our own judgments. No entity can pay to be included, to move up, or to be assessed sooner, and we receive no funding for any ranking. We sell no consulting or benchmarking to anyone we rank and carry no advertising. Team members declare their affiliations and step aside where they are conflicted. Details: Independence and Conflict of Interest Policy.

To keep outside influence away from our work, the identities of our team, editorial panel and assessors are kept confidential.

Not-for-profit, for now and in principle

RankingLab operates on a not-for-profit basis and is run by volunteers. Should that change, the change will be published in the Funding Policy at least 30 days before it takes effect. Whatever the model, the rule against payment for inclusion or position stays.

Our relationship with other rankings

We are not a replacement for established rankings or for accreditation. We complement them with a faster, AI-era lens and an open method. Where their data may lawfully be used, it enters our scores as a small, capped reference signal; where it may not, it is not used at all.

Governance

  • Editorial board: owns the methodology and holds editorial responsibility for every release.
  • Verification desk: runs the eligibility gate and handles integrity reports.
  • Assessor panel: scores entries under the code of conduct.
  • Advisory council: independent experts in quality assurance, research assessment and AI ethics, with no say over individual results.

Members are not named, to protect the independence of their work. The editorial board holds editorial responsibility for every publication.

Where we focus

Our current focus is business and management, software and AI development, engineering and related fields: from MBA programs and business schools to engineering schools, the best places to study AI, and the companies that put AI to work. See all rankings.

Our system is deliberately flexible. Its frameworks, research protocols and agents are built to adapt as reality changes, so new fields and new kinds of rankings can be added as the AI era reshapes learning and work.
